      Job Summary:

      We now have an exciting opportunity for an Therapy Assistant to join our posture and mobility team in Leicester.

      This job is ideal for someone who is keen to learn, able to work independently and has a health and care background.

      You will work closely with your qualified OT / Rehabilitation Engineer colleagues to support patients / assist with moving and handling / assist with the completion of postural assessments and clinical note writing.

      You will have the opportunity to take part in clinical supervision to enhance your personal and professional development.

      Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

      • To undertake skilled support work without direct supervision or presence of an Occupational Therapist / Rehabilitation Engineer.
      • To complete basic postural assessments to determine a patient’s clinical need.
      • To measure, order and handover equipment safely within the department and within an individual’s home environment (if required) as directed by an Occupational Therapist / Rehabilitation Engineer.
      • To assist occupational therapists with the assessment of more complex patient’s that require assistance of 2 staff.
      • To review patients by telephone to provide advice, review situation, gather more information, document outcomes and refer back to clinicians as appropriate.
      • To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in-line with College of Occupational Therapy, Trust and business standards
      • To share information with MDT, Community Teams and others, adhering to Data Protection and Information Governance guidelines
      • To carry out general clerical duties e.g. to order equipment for the department, photocopy paperwork, posting documents to patients, e-mailing multi-disciplinary team members.

      Environmental:

      • To deal sensitively with patients who may have high levels an anxiety and aggression caused by pain, dementia, mental health issues or limited mobility.
      • The job involves the manual handling of wheelchairs, beds, hoists and the movement of equipment from one place to another, sometimes in a confined environment.
      • To assist Occupational Therapists (OT) with home visits as required.
      • To liaise with the Occupational Therapist and other team members as appropriate concerning patient care, highlighting any concerns about the outcome of treatment.
      • Assist in the training of Occupational Therapist students.

      Professional:

      • To actively participate in own development and review in order to identify personal development plans and training needs.
      • To attend mandatory training according to business policy.
      • To attend and participate in in-service training as required, including the training of new assistants, Junior Occupational Therapists and students in basic elements of patient care, safety and inducting them into the department.

      Skills & Personal Attributes
      Essential:

      • Good written and verbal communication skills
      • Ability to work under own initiative when required.
      • Good organisational skills
      • Flexible with effective time management skills
      • Good IT and keyboard skills
      • Physically able to assist patients / hoisting equipment for care and movement
      • Experience in patient care.
      • Excellent problem solving skills

      Desirable:

      • Previous NHS or social care experience.
      • Experience within a therapy team setting.
      • Full UK Driving License
