      Workshop Manager

      Job Summary:

      The role holder manages the workshop environment in Bristol for the fabrication, repair and maintenance of medical devices that come to Bristol for patients.

      This is a key central role that ensures all manufacturing is dealt with efficiently and accurately and that all systems are up to date and maintained at all times.

      Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

      • To oversee the preparation and assembly / building of medical devices as required by the Prosthetist in Bristol according to the requirements of the Prescription or Works Order.
      • To ensure prostheses issued to patients are functioning satisfactorily and provided in a timely manner.
      • Ensuring correct materials / components are ordered and issued for the job and that appropriate tools are available.
      • To liaise with key clinical stakeholders to address identified quality problems and assist in providing effective solutions, thus minimizing unnecessary wastage and delay.
      • To assess the Prescription / Works Orders and understand the nature of its requirements and ensure that finished products comply with any associated Measure Charts, manufacturer’s instructions etc.
      • Book in / out materials as required for work assigned and ensure that parts are requested to the correct location.
      • Complete and maintain production and inspection records as required.
      • Ensure adequate identification of work at all stages is maintained at all times.
      • Ensure manufacturing activities are undertaken in compliance to company / site H&S and Quality procedures & regulations.
      • Assist training and the development of newly recruited technicians and develop multi-skilling within the workshop as identified with Technicians and the Clinical Manager.
      • Where appropriate use the current I.T. system in accordance with identified procedures.
      • Identify and implement improvements to local procedures where necessary.
      • Ensure that internal confidential information is kept confidential from external sources unless permission is granted by senior centre management.
      • Ensure smooth running of the tertiary functions of the workshop e.g. storeroom function.
      • To take responsibility for stores including management of stock and providing line management to stores staff.
      • Provide the Centre Manager with information where there are difficulties in achieving satisfaction in quality or difficulty in achieving the recommended timescales or specified requirements.
      • Minimise wastage of NHS or company funding by ensuring that products are ordered correctly. If there is a product that is deemed not to be suitable ensure that the product is not damaged and that the packaging is available in order for a refund to be claimed.
      • Agree objectives with the Centre Manager and report regularly on progress.
      • A sound appreciation of customer needs and how best to articulate how Opcare can meet those needs.
      • Manage Technicians and lead by example to create a productive efficient team environment including providing 1:1’s and appraisals.
      • Identify realistic timescales for the completion of jobs given out, thereby ensure efficient and optimal running of the facility.
      • Oversee and manage the Health and Safety for the Workshop reporting to the centre manager where appropriate to ensure improvements are made as required.
      • Report on site health and safety issues as representative of employee safety to the Centre Manager for this to be escalated to the Health and Safety Manager.

      Qualifications:

      • Good hand skills.
      • Technical understanding of device function.
      • Management qualification is desirable.
      • Experience of managing in a manufacturing environment is desirable
