Workshop Manager is an exciting role which manages the fabrication, repair and maintenance of medical devices within the workshop environment, leads, develops and motivates the team within our prosthetic workshop ensuring prosthetic orders are processed effectively to satisfy the requirements of the specification, clinician, patient and service requirements. Ensures productivity, product quality and training targets are achieved in line with service KPIs.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Oversee and manage preparation and assembly / building of medical devices, onsite repairs, production control & workload planning to ensure production meets all KPIs and quality measures and is provided within centre contractual requirements
Work closely with Centre Manager on WIP inventory controls and processes including, Stock management, Planning, Stock take, Audits and drive change and improve standardisation of processes and products to meet regulatory requirements within workshop and CFAB
Set measure and report on Key Performance Indicators covering productivity and quality
Maintain implementation and compliance of standardised work instructions (SOP’s)
Maintain compliance to the Medical Device Regulation (MDR)
In conjunction with the Centre Manager, you will be responsible for all elements of ISO procedures / QA and Health & Safety requirements ensuring manufacturing activities are undertaken in compliance to company / site H&S and Quality procedures & regulations
To review manufacturing specification and understand the nature of its requirements and ensure that finished products comply with any associated measure Charts, manufacturer’s instructions and ensure adequate identification of work at all stages is maintained at all times
Book in / out materials as required for work assigned and ensure that parts are requested to the correct location
Plan, prioritise and allocate workloads across the workshop team
Manage holiday rota, to ensure workshop is adequately staffed
Ensuring correct materials / components are ordered and issued for the job minimizing unnecessary wastage and delay making sure that wastage of NHS or company funding are ordered correctly. If there is a product that is deemed not to be suitable ensure that the product is not damaged and that the packaging is available in order for product to be returned and refund to be claimed
Complete hands-on technician activities including day repairs and diagnostics and support stores including management of stock as required for service delivery
Complete and maintain production and inspection records to ensure all machinery is maintained, tested and calibrated
Manage Technicians and lead by example to create a productive efficient team environment
Support and develop outstanding Technicians, and ensure the workshop is staffed with talented, motivated people who play to their strengths to meet the business needs and are motivated to improve
Complete appraisals with Centre Manager, agree objectives, training and the development of workshop team and newly recruited technicians
Develop multi-skilling within the workshop, identified by review and completing training matrix for workshops showing current gap analysis and potential service issues and report regularly on progress
Ensure that internal confidential information is kept confidential from external sources unless permission is granted by senior centre management
Where appropriate use the current I.T. system in accordance with identified procedures
Report on site health and safety issues as representative of employee safety to the Centre Manager for this to be escalated to the Health and Safety Manager
Provide the Clinical team, Centre Manager with information where there are difficulties in achieving satisfaction in quality or difficulty in achieving the recommended timescales or specified requirements

Qualifications:
Experience of managing a small team in a manufacturing environment
Able to plan, organise and manage own workload and that of the team
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Competent in the use of computers, including Microsoft Office and bespoke packages
Good hand skills
Technical understanding of device function
Experience of prosthetic manufacture and repair desirable
Management qualification is desirable
